Wakey Wakey— Week Five: It's Time!
We are entering the second week of 40 days of humbling ourselves by prayer and fasting as an Appeal to Heaven for the Next Great Awakening in America.
The focus for this week is prayer that the Spirit of the Father be restored to America. We recognize that this is the key to turn around. This means the difference between blessing and cursing individually, as families and as a nation. The last words of prophecy prior to Jesus’ mission to earth were, “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.” Blessing is the fruit of covenant communion with God as our Father and we as His covenant children. Outside of His covenant mankind is subject to the curse. A curse came when Adam rejected knowledge of his Father and rebelled against His word. That curse entered the very ground and Adam’s work became hard labor. His disobedience severed the perfect communion he had enjoyed as the first created son of covenant with God.
Human beings are uniquely relational creations. More than pure animal instinct, beyond mere physiological impulse, we are a complex and beautiful, mysterious phenomena. The Father in heaven is the designer, author, source and sustenance of our lives but first and foremost He is relational and personal. The very highest human empathy, compassion, or good is the dynamic force of the original seed of Himself that the Father inbreathed when He bent down, scooped up the primal dust, and sculpted Adam in His image the garden of Eden. The ultimate human being is the Son of the Father, the Man Christ Jesus. The mission of Christ was a demonstration of true Sonship. He established the eternal covenant between God and all who come to Him as His sons. Jesus said, "All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me.” Matthew 11:25-29.
God has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” Inheritance, authority to govern, the anointing of the Holy Spirit and great satisfaction are all the blessing of obedience and relationship with the Father. This is the blessing we need today.
Isaiah 58 promises, “your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily. Your righteousness shall go before you, the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard… The Lord will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father.” Jacob became the father of God’s covenant people even though Esau was first-born. Arrogant Esau assumed entitlements regardless of his moral behavior. God calls Esau’s attitude toward his responsibility as heir “immoral” and “unholy.” Esau disdained the covenant that assured him an inheritance and sold his birthright for a bowl of soup. God takes it seriously. He says, “Jacob I have loved; and Esau I have hated.” Jacob valued the blessing to the extent of sacrifice of reputation, relationships, fortune, and personal comfort and safety. Jacob wrestled all night to hold on to his blessing. Crisis, oppression and the threat of tyranny create opportunity for the people of God. We wrestle not against flesh and blood. We shall overcome!
The mainstay of education and guidance of the fathers of our nation was scripture. Would it be so once again! They assumed responsibility in their generation and took courage as they looked to heaven and risked their lives for an inheritance for us. They believed that the Spirit of the Lord is the Author of our liberty. The Father of our Nation, George Washington, said at his inauguration: “It would be peculiarly improper to omit in this first official act, my fervent supplications to that Almighty Being who rules over the universe, who presides in the council of nations, and whose providential aids can supply every human defect, that his benediction may consecrate to the liberties and happiness of the people of the United States, a government instituted by themselves for these essential purposes.”
As America’s original President Washington led the nation in appeal to heaven: “Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness: Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us. And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations, especially such as have shown kindness to us, and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best."
The God of the Old Testament and the New, God of Israel, God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, God of the fathers of our nation is Father of the human race. He creates covenant. He is the Author of all blessing. From the Mayflower Compact to the US and individual state Constitutions, this nation was founded on covenants acknowledging God as Supreme Ruler and Source of blessing and continued liberty. Those covenants unite us with our heritage and are promise of blessing for future generations. We are in a spiritual wrestling match to honor those covenants and secure blessing and inheritance for our children. Let us collectively humbly repent for abdicating our responsibility to preserve our freedoms as a nation. Pray for the restoration of the Spirit of the Father that we might break the curse of immorality, corruption and confusion. Pull down the strongholds of witchcraft and antichrist over the land and release the Spirit of the Father. Pray the hearts of our children be turned to their true heritage and to our Heavenly Father. Pray the spirit of enchantment over this generation will be broken. We are on the verge of a great awakening. We are getting greater clarity in this hour of who we are, where we came from, why we are here and where we are going. Don’t be discouraged in difficult times. You are called to be an heir. God is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. May His Spirit be restored to America.
