Weekly Watch Focus: Peace for Jerusalem

FRIDAY, July 21, 2017—”Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: 'May they proper who love you. Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces’” (Psalm 122:6-7).

Last week three terrorists attacked Israeli security forces at the Al Aksa mosque, killing two Israeli policemen. Israel closed the Temple Mount and installed metal detectors after discovering stashes of weapons and items inciting terror in the Al Aqsa mosque. In protest, Palestinian and Jordanian leaders called for all imams in the city and surrounding area to cancel Friday prayers this week and bring their followers to the Temple Mount. Tens of thousands of protestors are expected. Riots and violence have already broken out after Palestinian President Abbas ordered Wednesday a “Day of Rage” in response to the metal detectors installed at the Al Aqsa mosque. Israel has called thousands of special police forces and the IDF has called extra battalions to the West Bank if backup is needed.

Stand in the gap. Pray for protection for this small nation which is so important in the heart of our Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. We know as we pray that God will shield Israel. He commands us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Do not be silent until she is a praise in all the earth (see Isaiah 62:7). We freshly commit ourselves to daily prayer for the peace of Jerusalem. Release angels to stand guard at the borders of Israel. May those who plan terror and destruction against the Jews and against Jerusalem be confused and completely defeated. Bind the spirit of terror and violence. Command tension to be dispelled as Israel takes measures to protect all citizens throughout its land. God calls Israel the apple of His eye. Shalom to you, Jerusalem.

Psalm 125:1-3, "Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people from this time forth and forever.
