As we celebrate freedom and the founding of this nation this week, we pray for America and ask the Lord to pour out His Spirit of revival and refreshing on the godly seeds sown by our forefathers. We honor the generations before us who carried in their hearts God's vision and purpose for America, laying a foundation for us to build on at great sacrifice and cost to their own personal lives.
Honoring our fathers is a key to the outpouring of blessing. Solomon stepped into the blessing he had because David had laid a foundation for his son to build on. David's greatest desire was to build the house of the Lord, but the Lord had him prepare for another, his son, to accomplish his vision. 2 Chronicles 7:1 and 11 recounts, "When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the temple...Thus Solomon finished the house of the Lord and the king's house; and Solomon successfully accomplished all that came into his heart to make in the house of the Lord and in his own house." As Solomon built the house according to the plans set out by his father, the glory of the Lord appeared and He said, "Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place. For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually" (2 Chron. 7:15,16).
God laid dreams in the hearts of our forefathers to establish a nation whose purpose was for the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ. From Christopher Columbus, to the first Pilgrims to land at Plymouth and to the framers of the Constitution, our forefathers had a sense of the destiny and purpose of God on this natural land. We have a rich heritage and destiny passed down to us by these great men and women. It is a foundation for a nation whose building has been given to successive generations, including us. This is the inheritance we celebrate as we commemorate our nation's birth. May we be refreshed and encouraged as watchmen builders to build the house God first birthed in the hearts of our founding fathers, and fulfill the purposes of our generation.
Happy Birthday and God Bless America!
