Weekly Watch Focus: ISIS Defeat in Raaqa

FRIDAY, October 20, 2017—After three years of brutal terror and murderous occupation, ISIS forces have been defeated and ousted from the stronghold of Raqqa, their self-proclaimed capital of the “caliphate.” Allied fighters, including U.S. armed forces, took back the city on Tuesday, October 17, including the infamous square where ISIS jihadists had been carrying out public beheadings and crucifixions. Praise the Lord that this evil force of darkness has been defeated. Bless the many allied forces who have laid down their lives to bring deliverance to Syria.

Continue to pray for this troubled region. Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced and countless others murdered by ISIS in the past three years. Syria is fractured and in need of national healing and restoration on a spiritual, emotional, and practical level. May God show mercy, restore peace, and protect the innocents. This is the region where the glory of the Lord came over the Apostle Paul on the road to Damascus and Jesus spoke to him, sending him to the Gentile world. May the allied forces pursue, overtake, and recover all. Pray that God’s shield over Israel remains strong.

Acts 9:3-5, “As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’ And he said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ Then the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’”

Ephesians 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Psalms 91:5,6, “You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.”

Psalms 27:2-5, “When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war may rise against me, in this I will be confident. One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple. For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.”

2 Kings 13:17, “And he said, ‘Open the east window’; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, ‘Shoot’; and he shot. And he said, ‘The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; for you must strike the Syrians at Aphek till you have destroyed them.’”

2 Corinthians 3:17, “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
Isaiah 61:1,3, Psalm 2:1-12, Rev. 22:1-2
